Hello friends, Rob here.
Sorry this blog fell off the map mid-tour. Short version, The Blue Party are absolute animals and somebody from The Revivalists has to at least try to keep up with them and I’ll be gosh-damned if it wasn’t going to be me. So, when it was daylight out, I had to focus a bit more on drinking Emergen-C and groaning and not throwing up everywhere than blogging. My bad.
So now we’re home. The tour was excellent. Superb. Outstanding. Splendid.
What happened? Really, what didn’t happen? The Blue Party/Revivalists “icing” war got completely out of control. Doublecrosses, 24-ounce ices, a daring vehicle-to-vehicle ice block on a country road (video of which is pending legal consultation), and what does anybody have to show for it? Other than diabetes?
War. War never changes.
George Stathakes‘ house is, in his own words, “a pocket dimension that exists outside of time and space.” You go in, and you’re not sure how long you’ve been there, or how long you’re going to be there, but you know one thing: it’s peaceful. Your problems do not exist at the Stathakes residence, or at the family’s diner, Our Place, which is (George’s words once again) “the portal to and from the pocket dimension.” It’s also a place where you can eat awesome food. Special thanks to the wonderful Stathekes family for feeding us, boarding us, and letting us hog the XBOX and play Tiger Woods Golf for, seriously, I think about 28 hours.
After escaping the pocket dimension, we made some new allies in Starkville, we encountered some creatures in Hattiesburg (whom we fended off with help from some of our friends from Roundhouse Groove), and made peaceful contact with emissaries from the lesbian community of Pensacola (I really hope that’s not an offensive thing to say, because they were awesome and I had a great time with them). Along the way we even got to hear a mix of “Upright,” which is a song we recorded last December for our forthcoming album. That Ben Ellman fellow we have producing it (one time Elvis Presley called me a name-dropper) sure does some spectacular work, let me tell you! Very promising stuff. Lots of fun.
Oh yeah, also I think we played music in front of people. I can’t really be too sure.
Speaking of playing music in front of people, URGENT UPDATE WHICH IS VERY URGENT:
DUE TO A SCHEDULING CLUSTERBOINK THE CONCERTS WE ARE PLAYING THIS WEEKEND HAVE SWITCHED DATES. WE ARE NOW PERFORMING IN LAFAYETTE ON FRIDAY AND BATON ROUGE ON SATURDAY. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE AND WE PROMISE TO PLAY GOOD NOTES AT BOTH PERFORMANCES. THANK YOU.
Now that that’s out of the way, I think this entry is over. We’re psyched to be playing a Super Bowl party in Pensacola on Sunday for some of our best Florida-friends in the entire world. Upcoming we have a nice litte 2.5 week run that should keep us busy until Mardi Gras, so be on the lookout to see if we’re headed your way this month. For now, I’m going to go back to being on staycation (yes, I actually just used that word, and no, I’m not taking it back). Thank you for being wonderful!
