Hello, friends! Rob here. It’s good to be back.
It’s very good to be back.
Don’t get me wrong, my supercondensed Asiatic adventure experience was really awesome, and I wouldn’t trade it for just about anything, but I’m one of those lucky people who actually misses his job while on vacation.
Fortunately, Zack picked up my slack during the South Florida Tour and did a stellar job of keeping everyone (including myself) updated as to the band’s happenings, shenanigans, and general goings-on. Nevertheless, I’d like to backtrack a bit at the beginning of this entry and thank everyone for coming out and helping us have a wonderful time at Tipitina’s a few Fridays ago. With 2011 over half-done, I can tell you right now that it’s an early front-runner for best show of the year.
Then I left for a while so let’s skip to the parts of stuff that I actually did.
So after returning to home sweet America on Wednesday and taking Thursday to un-jetlag myself, I met with Andrew on Friday to drive to Tuscaloosa and rejoin with the band. Unfortunately, our return meant it was time for our friends Sam Shahin and Michael Girardot to head back home (don’t worry, they had stuff to do that weekend. We didn’t just show up and tell them to piss off). A trillion thank-yous to Mike and Sam for keeping the band whole and keeping the dream alive in our absence.
The show at Green Bar in Alabama was lots of fun. The opening band, Cloudeater, was super good and we want to be band-friends with them. However, tragedy struck when, after a storied three-year career, my $20 Nokia drug dealer phone wandered off on its own and was swallowed by the depths of Alabama. Still, it was a fun evening. Sincere friendship goes out to the staff there, because they were all pretty awesome dudes and/or chicks.
Saturday in Hattiesburg was great because Bennie’s Boom Boom is always a fun place. Not only did we get to see all of our Hattiesfriends, but some of my New Orleans friends came up to join in the fun as well! And as an added bonus, nobody threw drinks at Zack’s equipment! Excellent.
On the topic of excellent, we’ve got quite a long weekend starting tomorrow. We’ll be in Lafayette, Shreveport, Arkansas, Arkansas (again), St. Louis, and Cape Girardeau, MO. Happy Labor Day (or Memorial Day, I can never remember which is which), and we’ll see you around!
PS Sorry, but I didn’t fly halfway around the world to not annoy with pictures I took from my recent vacation. Here’s one that my super pretty girlfriend Amanda helped me with, entitled “Tree Physics (fig. 1)”:
