Hello, friends! Rob here.
Well that certainly was a week! The Revivalists just got home at about ten this morning after driving through the night all the way from Cape Girardeau, MO. I don’t want to get ahead of myself here by starting at the ending, but it is worthy of note that, upon our arrival (at the conclusion of a nine-hour overnight drive, mind you), Ed pretty much reported directly to work. A quote from Ed when we reached New Orleans:
“So I just charged my phone and turned it back on, and I already have 22 emails- Oh, now it’s 23.”
The weekend started off casually enough, with a trip to Lafayette on Thursday. There are many wonderful and familiar faces in Lafayette, but it was pretty much a typical road show. Show up, play some notes, bum some couch space, eat breakfast, back on the highway.
Things started getting interesting on Friday in Shreveport, when, after 25 years of loyal service, my beloved toenail found itself on the losing end of an altercation with a road case. So there I was, about 90 minutes til showtime, frantically trying to figure out where in Shreveport I could purchase supplies to patch myself up. Of course, I did what any rational human being would do: I freaked the living fuck out. I took the van to go look for a drug store and there are a few graphic scenes that aren’t exactly fit for print and I’m not above admitting that I was pretty close to tears at one point, but I finally managed to get myself semi-patched up and back to Fatty’s just in time… To sit down through the entire set.
Shreveport wasn’t the only place where my grievous injury held me back. We weren’t quite sure what to expect coming to Clinton, Arkansas to play at Rock Pit Ranch. It turned out to be an outdoor party similar in nature and scale to Gish’s Getaway, but with more emphasis placed on taking advantage of the unique splendor of its setting in the Ozark Mountains. There were cliffs to be jumped, basins to be swam, ATVs to be driven, and paintballs to be fired at people, which was wonderful for every able-bodied person in attendance, and for my part I had a few very pleasant naps during the afternoons.
Of course, when the sun went down, music happened. There were lots and lots of great musicians there, and after a few shorter organized sets everything would inevitably come together in a communal jam session, complete with bootleg flavored wine and moonshine being passed about.
After two days of that, we returned to civilization to play a nice, intimate show in St. Louis. The next night was our first ever show in Cape Girardeau, home of the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. It went as well as any band could reasonably expect a random Tuesday night in a new town to go, and we’re all excited to come back.
So that brings us to the end, which constitutes the beginning of this entry. This weekend we’ve got the year’s second-to-last double-header at Bamboo Willie’s in Pensacola coming up. Hard to believe the season is almost over. One way or another, we’ll have to (gladly) lose a bit of sleep to make the drive back to New Orleans, because we’ll be playing the fifth annual New Orleans Seafood Festival on Sunday at 12:30 PM.
Hope to see you out there! Before we go, special thanks…
…to our friends Maggie Koerner and band (most of whose opening set I missed because of toe), DJ Quickie Mart for sandblasting the entire club’s faces off with a supremely concentrated set during intermission, and Scott Gerardy of Dirtfoot for jamming with us in Shreveport.
…to Matt Timmons and, come to think of it, exactly everybody else at Rock Pit ranch, for being pound-for-pound the nicest group of people I have ever encountered. Also Kathleen is awesome at violin.
…and finally, to the bizarre spam-bot that keeps trying to post automatically generated responses to our blog updates. They all seem to be tailored towards news and consumer reports rather than blogs full of stories about band guys, and they all invariably contain one intentionally misspelled word, as though they were written by those religious quilters who deliberately make mistakes “because only God is perfect.” The comments are obnoxious, but sometimes it’s entertaining how they try (and fail) to replicate human enthusiasm and English vernacular:
“I was raelly confused, and this answered all of my questions.”
“That addresses sveearl of my concerns actually.”
“Big help, big help. And superlative news of cruose.”
“With the bases loaded you struck us out with that asenwr!”
“Such a deep asnewr! GD&RVVF”
“There’s a terrific aomnut of knowledge in this article!”
“Never would have thunk I would find this so iindspensable.”
“Pin my tail and call me a dnoeky, that really helped.”
“Created the greatest artclies, you have.”
And my personal favorite:
“Slam dknuin like Shaquille O’Neal, if he wrote informative articles.”
See you next week! I hope this superlative and informative news article was hlepful.

Any word on when you will be back to Hamilton?
This post is Slam dknuin
Rob, thank you for the kind words about the ranch. Almost makes us want to start a blog up just to return some wordage to all of you. We had many similar feelings leading up to the big hoopla, not sure what to expect since we had randomly stumbled upon your CD and fell in love with it. To find a band of original caliber with 6 amazing musicians with such diverse personalities and potentials was an amazing experience in itself. We loved that you came as musicians but left as family and look forward to hearing you again soon. You have support now in DFW, TX and in the Ozarks and please do not hesitate to knock on some of our doors. You all deserve to be heard, and it is your righteous duty to put your messages out to the open minded. Much love and the valley is too quiet now since The Revivalists, OMGKapow, GOAT, TJ Roman, Dustin Morris, and Kathleen left all of our hearts filled with yummy tunage!
